Notes May, 2020

I'm getting started late this month.  But, I hope to figure out the kind of content I would like to post here. It's a matter of figuring it out as I go.  The Cliff Notes version is that as I post things I do during a given day, I can remember on a base level my life matters.  That may seem like a huge existential claim, but there is a significant reason for it.  See the next line for a bit of that reason why.
Before the end of this month I will make sure I finish my "affidavit" of what happened to me during my experience in the Boy Scouts, in 1972-73.  And, send it to my attorney's.
Last night, for some reason, I stayed up until 6am.  Most of the afternoon and evening I watch YouTube videos of Norway.  And, posting them on my website and forums site.  There was one particular young couple that caught my attention, Kara & Nate.  They've been traveling full time for that past 4 years, and creating these experiential videos of that traveling around to 100 countries.  I found the time they traveled to Norway.  I was intrigued by their story.Late in the early morning, I recorded an hour & 15 min "podcast" that I deleted later this morning.  I haven't doing very well to get back to a better routine, get shaved, showered and dressed before 8am.  This experience in this hotel has really thrown me off.

Tuesday, May 26th, 2020

Today I'm recording this a day later. Because, yesterday (Tuesday) I was rather engrossed in working on my family ancestry page on my website. There is a have with multiple pages regarding my family history, ancestry and Heritage.

One thing I did today, Tuesday was to post in the Minnesota Norwegians Facebook group the request for spelling pronunciation for my last name Jordal. And I immediately started to get responses that felt very good to me. 😄

One was somebody essentially trying to hack into my post by asking for something that she wanted. 😒 A woman that was asking regarding her family name. But I hid that comment with little shame or feeling bad because that's exactly what she was trying to do. Even though she may not have been clearly conscious of it.

But here's the one thing I want to make sure I include in these notes. One of the women had commented on my question post actually when on Facebook messaging and recorded her voice saying my name as she would say it, in Norway. It struck me so hard that I started bawling. Tears started streaming, I think because it was such a direct connection to people living in Norway. Something that I've been wanting. And here I am walking through the process of getting it. Showing that way it did strike a chord that was much deeper than what others might see on the service.

Also in the series of comments word links to actual digital archive information about my family. So that added to the personal nature of the connection from all these people in the Minnesota Norwegians Facebook group. BTW, I'm a member of several groups, if not many groups associated with Norway in Norwegian heritage, in Norwegian genealogy.

I also spent most of the time today, also working on my website. Specifically, Jordahl ancestry page. And, made some good progress. As far as the general overview for the day. It's been weeks, if not months, that I've gotten into a habit of waiting until the end of the day to shave and shower. Today, Tuesday was no different. But what I did do was to wash my face, take a shower and wait until the morning to get back into the rhythm of shaving in the morning.

90% of this post, if not 95% was entered using voice recognition. It's awesome! It was also entered using my phone. And, I'm not able to edit the text the way I want.

Last night again, I did not get to bed until 3 a.m. or later. Again, it was a restless sleep. But, it was a deep sleep when I was sleeping. I only got up once, maybe twice then I remember.

I finally got started getting up in the morning at 8:00am, and shaving and showering right away.

Content on it's way...

This morning I woke up to the news about another boil over here in Minneapolis from the George Floyd killing by Police. From the George Floyd protest for the past two days headlining the news this morning because of the devastation all along Lake Street. The area in which George Floyd was killed by Minneapolis Police was an area I've lived in for many years. The Target store that was looted Lake Street and 27th Avenue was a store I used to shop at. Along with the Rainbow Foods and a Cub Foods both in the same area. That is where the Minneapolis 3rd Precinct is. That is where I trained and Aikido, the third floor of the building on the northeast corner of that intersection. A couple doors south of Rainbow Foods.

I started listening to the news, and once I started hearing all of this crap, all of this these stupid ideas regarding responses to the pandemic and now to the Floyd killing by police. I had to turn it off! I turned it off for the same reason as I turn it off before. Peoples stupid responses to terrible things. Especially people in authority responsibility leadership. Especially people in the news, the people whose profession is communication. This is also where our culture fails! It becomes a process of something terrible happens and then we watch on the sidelines as if it was entertainment!

Terrible experiences. I'm also more clear now, more than ever, about the responsibility of all people, including people of color in these kinds of situations. Last night there was a killing that is being investigated as a homicide. For 10 years I've been clearly aware of the racial tension in our community, our state, and our country. I could have predicted this kind of... circumstance, tragedy, boil over as the phrase has been used.

[per voice recognition, recording this early May 31]
Today, I was witnessing from the news all of the rioting about the George Floyd killing, or actually murder, while in police protection.

I have been watching videos of mayor Jacob Frey and of governor Walz. I'm also becoming more motivated to work on my project, to use it help people be aware of what officials are saying. Meaning, to post videos of these news conferences that the mayor's and Governor is producing.

Dinner came around and I ate that. I believe it was then I shaved and showered. I also need to mention that it was around this time that I notice cigarette smoke again in my room. Actually while I was laying down for a nap, and then sitting on my bed.  Concerned and frustrated over breathing cigarette smoke I got up and went into the bathroom. This is where it smelled it the strongest, again most likely because the vent for the bathroom is rate above the sink. And most likely the vent is a shaft that connects rooms down below, because of the rooms being back to back as well as the bathroom's. Also, because staff and security had not determined who is smoking in their room. I did not make the call to report the 12th time I had smelled, breathed cigarette smoke in my room.

[7/24/20, today's editing corrected mistakes made because of the use of voice recognition using my phone to enter this text]

Then, decided to go on a walk to the store. I had learned that there is a Festival Foods across the street from the Walgreens that I've been to. I got ready to go went downstairs and learned that the building was shut down. I wanted to go out the door toward the back corner of the building. But there was Hennepin County staff and the security guard sitting at the table in front of the door. Told me I could not leave out that door. I was not upset, I did not make any smart remarks. I actually interacted in a way that just suggested I was moving on, as I said, responding to staff being sorry. I said that's okay. I went up to the front door, and I could not leave out that main door, but I had to leave out this smokers door. I was in a hurry 2 get walking in the sunshine and get to the store. But I was upset, telling the security guard that I should not have to walk out the smokers door. And mama said something to the effect that are laws that are supposed to protect people like me. Non-smokers! I was rather angry. It pushed a button for me.

As I started to walk in the direction of Walgreens, I didn't use the headphones I brought with me to listen to something on my phone. I was that upset. I also noticed around the area of the hotel there were no bystanders, people walking around, or anything of that sort. So the idea of the Hotel shutting down she would rather stupid to me.

As I watch to Walgreens I did not see anyone until I got to the corner Lyndale Avenue and 94th Street. Two of the corners on the west side of Lyndale were full of people. With a smattering of a few other people around or near the intersection. One of the things I noticed, as I walked past the crowd on the corner in front of Walgreens was that I reminded myself that there may be plenty of these people at think I'm a police officer. I've been seeing that way so frequently, it has been a very regular thing I've had to deal with.

I also noticed as I walked past Walgreens how boarded-up that business was as well as so many others. Across the street walked over to the Festival Foods store and saw that they were also closed for the day. I took a photo of the front of the store just for the record. Started walking away, and noticed the memorial blood drive location. And, took a photo of that as well. I went up to 98th Street crossed it. And, decided to cross Lyndale and walk back towards the speedway gas station. To see if they were still open, I noticed they close down early too. As well as being boarded up. I made my way back to the hotel, again finding myself rather angry and having to walk through the smokers door. I think I went back up to my room first, but then make my way down to the Hennepin County room where they work out of. I asked for supervisor and had a very Frank conversation with him. He's the guy that was formerly a sheriff. I got rather heated but I also backed off of getting too angry. And the former Sheriff, can't think of his name, clearly understood. And then walked out to the front where the one security guard tried to suggest that I was always angry. At that time I discovered that he had only seen me twice. The other time I reported that I smelled cigarette smoke in my room and seem to be rather angry about it. And this time where I'm angry about having to walk through the smokers section and their door. I went up to get something from the front desk person. And, decided to ask her in front of the security guard that suggested I was always angry, and asked her do I seem always angry?! And she obviously had to say and did say no way. I made a gesture with my hand toward the security guard emphasizing that he was wrong about his characterization of me. And further talked about reasons why I've been angry when I have been angry. There too I left saying I'm just doing me, in regards to reporting issues I'm having to deal with.

Truth is I only got about 3 maybe 4 hours of sleep last night. I tried to lay down for more, or wanted to lay down for more sleep. But, I was very intrigued by the news of protesting for justice for George Floyd. And the subsequent rioting that's been destroying the Twin Cities. But I also have been noticing, seeing in the news how other cities around the country are protesting because of the photo and video of George Floyd had gone viral, over the net.
