Title: Minneapolis Simpson Shelter
Post by: David Jordahl on December 17, 2019, 06:26:14 pm
The Minneapolis Simpson shelter is managed by Simpson Housing Service.

The first time I stay at this shelter was April 1st, 2019.  I've been staying there ever since.

My goal is to see the recognition of my work, developing and providing resource listings that are more comprehensive than anything else in the state.  It is a very big vision and job I have taken on...

Below, I will recount my experiences  to remember what has happened, for the record.  Simpson shelter is in the long line of shelters that think they're so great at "helping" people, when the Minneapolis/Hennepin County shelter system is the problem.  Starting with the people in authority, responsibility, and leadership!
Title: The Process: Simpson to Holiday Inn (per COVID-19)

On March 18th, because of the Corona Virus (it's actually 2 words) or CORVID-19 Pandemic, Hennepin County took over the Holiday Inn in Bloomington to provide a "Shelter in Place" location for those staying in the Minneapolis/Hennepin County shelter system.  Being 61 yrs old, I, of course, took the opportunity.  The transition was like night and day.

From an environment where there is almost no privacy, little to no boundaries, and deep addiction sickness to all the privacy I need, and all the personal boundaries and sanity I want.  Again, of course I took the opportunity.  And, still there's the serious challenge of the stigma, dealing with the chronic problem of condescension from Hennepin County staff.  And then, there's the loneliness, and cabin-fever, which is a very real thing!
