Preface

This is my personal podcast channel!  So, obviously, I will be using it for my own purposes.  And yet, I will work to produce content that is understandable, for most, and very relevant!  I have a great deal to say that will be meaningful for most that care about life, and healthy living.  And yet, so much of this Norseman content will be to correct the wrongful and damaging narrative applied to me starting at an early age!  And, all the way up until today!  As you listen, that too will become rather obvious.

I'm sure many of you will also notice that I will be reading from a script I'm writing in my Podcast Channel Forum, simply to keep my thoughts & message organized and fluid.  And yet, I will often enough let myself speak freely, and use my script as a temple or guideline.  For those interested, you can visit my Norseman Podcast Channel Forum in the New Age Norseman Forums website, www.davidjordal.createaforum.com   Then, just click on the tab that says "Forums", that will take you to the list of forums on my site.  Then, look on the list of forums below for "Norseman Podcast Channel."

Or, just visit my personal website at www.davidjordahl.info/podcasts

This podcast, and others like it will be kept to 15 mins or less and converted into a video.  This will be done in order to keep it within the 15 min time limit for free YouTube accounts.  When I receive enough donations or funding, I can make them longer.

What I'm Thankful For...

What I'm Thankful For...

I have to start with I'm not sure where to start here...

I'm saying that because I'm still catching everyone up on just who I am, where I'm from, what am I doing, etc...

I guess, I should start with some of the basics about me, that will speak to an overview of who I am, and what I'm doing today, for the past 10 years, what I've been doing for the past 37 years, and my whole life.

First - I'm very thankful for having been given the strength to more than survive being born into a domestic violence family system, born and raise into an alcoholic/addict family system.  My father was a drunk and domestic abuser! His father was a drunk and domestic abuser! my mother's father was someone that I don't know much about, but my mother did say that she was not allow to sit in her father's lap!  Which seems very sick, dysfunctional, and not normal.  And, because I could see the affects of abuse in my family even before I knew what I was seeing.  Until I went through my process of recovery, then I more deeply understood what I was seeing in myself, my family, and others.

Also, because I was born into a domestic violence family system, and born and raised into an alcoholic family system, I was groomed to be a victim outside the family, while participating in the Boy Scouts.  Yes, I was one of those children sexually assaulted by an assistant Boy Scout Master.  And, not until this year, 2020, have I had any public recognition or support for even addressing that trauma.

38 years ago I went to Concordia College (in Midway, Twin Cities, MN) to become a Director of Christian Education, with a focus in music.  That was the fall semester 1982.  It took only one semester to realize I couldn't focus on school, because I was too full up with trauma and survival practices.  In the very beginning of 1983 I admitted to myself I could not continue going to school and genuinely take care of myself.  In the beginning of 1983 I made the decision to leave school and keep asking questions about my own self, and continue to figure out what I needed to do to take care of myself as I faced my process of recovery.

What I'm Thankful For... (part 2)

What I'm Thankful For... (part 2)

Second - I am very grateful for having the strength to say no to drugs and being out of control.  I was given every reason to drink, do drugs and medicate in many ways.  But, I did not!  I did NOT even try smoking cigarettes or the like.  I did NOT get into smoking weed or even try other more illicit drugs.

More than that I'm thankful for finding and connecting with many peers and professionals starting in 1983.  This whole process of recovery deserves to be the focus of many other podcasts.  There is a great deal more there to talk about.  If for no other reason than most of you out there don't know the benefit of know what it is to work with genuinely skills and practiced professionals that really know what it means to help.  I have not seen the type of people, professionals in the field of psychology and therapeutic counseling that I'm familiar with in the mainstream media.

I saved myself from a great deal of suffering and further personal cost by not getting into drinking, smoking, drugs and gambling!  But, the fact is, I also saved society a great deal of suffering and personal cost by taking care of myself.  There is a very significant lesson in what I just said, that also deserves to be the focus of at least one other podcast, and blog posts.

I am thankful for the strength and courage to survive and live and practice of recovery from my childhood abuse and trauma.  And, because of that I have been able to spend that past 10 years developing the concept for a new nonprofit that has already been here serving the community.  Just do a Google search for "Free Meals Minneapolis" and you will most likely see my website listing at the top of the search results.  And, more specifically, see the Free Meals Map, and the fact that it has received more than 51,000 views in 48 months.  That is averaging more than 1000 views per month.  And, there is so much more to this work than anyone can presume.

That's all for this podcast.  Thanks for listening.  Until next time, peace.
